Reviews

Dr. Wagner has seen my horse twice - once for routine spring shots and once for a dental. Doc was excellent in working with my reactive equine friend, and I appreciated his calm, professional, and empathetic approach. I look forward to his expertise for all our veterinary needs in the future. He was recommended to me and I will highly recommend him to others.

Dr Wagner Is The Primary Clinician And Owner Using Non-invasive, Whole Animal Approach To Medical, Lameness And Preventive Medical Issues. Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology Along With Traditional Veterinary Medicine Is Used Daily To Treat And Prevent Medical And Lameness Issues In His Equine Patients. By Returning The Biomechanical Function Of The Equine Athlete, The Horse Is Able To Preform At Their Highest Level With A Willing Behavior.

1) Chiropractic

Always asking "Why is that" and not having satisfaction in continued routine joint injections as the best medical practice for our equine athletes, I searched outside of the Traditional Western Veterinary Medicine's box of knowledge for answers to these questions. I discovered Chiropractic treatment adds to Traditional Western Veterinary Medicine by improving biomechanical function and performance of our equine patients. My practice evolved to include Chiropractic and other treatment modalities to find underlying biomechanical issues that have plagued your horse, limiting his performance, and negatively changing his disposition. Returning your horse to the proper biomechanics enhances their ability to perform while reducing or eliminating the need for joint injections.

2) Acupuncture

Acupuncture, one of the five aspects of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), is the act of putting needles or stimulating acupuncture points. In TCVM the concept of health in life is a balance. Disease occurs when the horse starts to go out of balance. In regards to acupuncture, Qi (pronounced "Chee") is the life energy flowing through the 12 pair of meridians in a 24 hour period. With disease or pain, Qi blockages occur in the meridians. By placing a needle in the acupuncture point, the Qi resumes flow and function of body part or organ system. These changes have been measured in the biochemical changes occurring locally, regionally and centrally in the spine and brain. One benefit of acupuncture is its sensitivity, the physical parameter changes of a disease process can be determined before a lab test abnormality occurs.

3) Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a muscle testing to determine abnormal neurologic function. This diagnostic method determines muscle and joint functionality and aberrant causes in abnormal function. AK elevates the effectiveness of chiropractic manipulation and acupuncture treatment to find the root cause of abnormal biomechanical movement. Correction of the underlying issues allows for improved biomechanical performance so chiropractic manipulations can restore joint function and stability for longer periods of time

4) Traditional Western Veterinary Medicine

Prevention of the disease process is paramount in our veterinary practice. With the use of vaccines to reduce infectious disease problems, teeth floating or dentistry to ensure proper proprioception, balance, and food mastication, quantitative fecals to determine parasite infestation for economical strategic deworming, nutritional and weight evaluation for intestinal health and body function, all take a preventive approach to the health care of your horse. By preventing a disease process using Traditional Western Veterinary Medicine complimented by Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Applied Kinesiology, we hope to eliminate the fire engine emergency and have a calmer, happier relationship with your equine friend and partner. By using these modalities we can reduce or eliminate some of the issues that plague equine owners like lameness or colic.

5) Lameness And Equine Biomechanics

Lameness and equine biomechanics go hand in hand. Proper equine biomechanical function ensures correct joint function and stability thereby reducing the chance of lameness developing. Loss of stability in the joint causes a cascade of events through trauma or micro-trauma resulting in inflammation or arthritis. Since 80% of joint stability is provided by muscles, if the muscle is not working correctly the joint is unstable meaning that equine biomechanics are not optimized allowing lameness to occur.. With the use of Applied Kinesiology and Chiropractic manipulation assisted by acupuncture, the muscle function and biomechanics are returned to normal use therefore stabilizes the joint to reduce or eliminate the inflammatory change.

Dr. Wagner has been my vet for many years. He takes the time to problem solve. His use of acupuncture and chiropractic keeps the horses at our barn happy. Dr. Wagner is great with the horses and their humans. We are fortunate to have him.
